What does free phone number validation include?

Free phone number validation on PhoneCheckr returns the same data as paid services — line type, carrier name, validity, and country code. Individual lookups are free, up to 10 per hour with no account.

Line type

Mobile, landline, or VOIP. This single data point tells you whether the number can receive SMS, how to route a call, and whether the contact is likely a real person or a disposable line.

Carrier name

The network the number belongs to: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Google Voice, Bandwidth, and hundreds more. Seeing the carrier tells you whether a VOIP number is from a consumer app or a business telephony provider.

Validity

Whether the number has a valid format and is currently assigned to a carrier. Invalid numbers are either malformed (wrong digit count, bad area code) or unassigned.

Country code

Confirmed country code for the number (+1 for US and Canada). Catches formatting issues in imported lists where country codes were stripped or entered inconsistently.

How to validate a phone number for free

Validation takes under 10 seconds and costs nothing for individual numbers.

  1. 1
Enter the number. Type or paste any US or Canadian phone number. All common formats work: +1 (555) 123-4567, 555-123-4567, 5551234567, or with spaces.
  2. 2
Click "Check number." PhoneCheckr normalises the input, queries a national carrier database, and returns the result.
  3. 3
Read the result. Line type, carrier name, and validity appear on screen immediately. No email, no sign-up, no paywall.

Free validation vs. bulk validation

PhoneCheckr offers two validation modes. Individual lookups are free. Bulk CSV uploads cost $0.01 per number with no subscription.

Free individual validation

  • One number at a time
  • Up to 10 lookups per hour
  • No account or email required
  • Returns line type, carrier, validity, country code
  • Best for spot-checking individual numbers

Bulk CSV validation

  • Upload a CSV with up to 1,000 numbers
  • $0.01 per number, no subscription
  • Same data: line type, carrier, validity, country code
  • Download results for CRM import
  • Best for cleaning lists before SMS campaigns

Why validate phone numbers?

Phone data degrades. People change carriers, disconnect numbers, and port between mobile and VOIP. A number collected six months ago may no longer be valid. Validation catches these problems before they affect your campaigns, sales calls, or CRM data quality.

Remove undeliverable numbers before SMS sends

Landlines and disconnected numbers cannot receive texts. Sending to them wastes spend and raises your bounce rate, which can get your sending number flagged by carriers.

Flag VOIP numbers in sign-up flows

VOIP numbers are easy to create in bulk and are a common vector for fake accounts. Checking line type at registration lets you flag or block VOIP entries before they enter your system.

Clean CRM phone data periodically

Export your CRM phone field, run it through bulk validation, and re-import with line type and carrier data appended. This keeps your database accurate and your outreach targeted.

Prioritize real mobile numbers for outbound

Sales reps burn time calling disconnected lines and fax machines. Validating a lead list before loading it into a dialer ensures reps only call numbers that are in service.

What free validation does not include

PhoneCheckr is a data-quality tool, not a people-search engine. Free validation returns carrier-level data: line type, carrier name, validity, and country code. It does not return the owner's name, address, call history, or social media profiles. If you need identity data, you would need a separate people-search service.
